Brogden is excited to announce Mallory Simmons as its new Dean of Students, in which role she will primarily support the school’s 7th Grade students, families, and staff.
A Durham native who was raised in neighboring Orange County, Simmons brings 12 years of experience in public education, having taught students in grades 9–12 in both Beaufort and Wake counties. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education, a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a Master’s in School Administration, all from East Carolina University.
Simmons is also a National Board Certified Teacher and holds certifications in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate instruction. Her commitment to education began early as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, and during her time at East Carolina University, she also supported college students as a tutor in the university’s Writing Center.
At the heart of Simmons’ leadership philosophy is a belief that every student deserves to feel known, valued, and supported at school.
“I love building relationships with students and families and helping to create a school environment where students feel safe taking risks, learning from mistakes, and discovering their own strengths,” Simmons shared. “As a school leader, I am committed to supporting both students and teachers and to ensuring every student has the opportunities, encouragement, and support they need to succeed.”
As Dean of Students, Simmons will play an important role in strengthening Brogden’s student support systems and school culture, with a primary focus on the 7th Grade community. She will work alongside teachers, families, student services personnel, and school administrators to support student success, positive relationships, and a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Outside of school, Simmons enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, reading, and being outdoors, especially near the water.
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Simmons to Brogden,” said Principal Desirae Smith. “Her experience as an educator, commitment to relationship-building, and belief in the potential of every student align strongly with the community we are continuing to build at Brogden. I am especially excited for our 7th Grade students, staff, and families to have another dedicated leader supporting their success.”
Simmons shared that she is looking forward to becoming part of the Brogden community and getting to know its students, families, and staff. Ms. Simmons will start her role on August 28th.
